Promobot is a stand-alone service robot. He independently moves, recognizes faces and speech, gets to know people and communicates with them on a variety of topics, can integrate with external devices, services and systems.

Promobot is not only an innovative business assistant, which acts as a consultant, administrator, concierge, guide. This is a complex technical device with a special design, engine components, electronic components and special software.

The architecture and basic elements of the operating system of the robot ROS are considered. The paper describes the commands of the operating system, the options for communication between the nodes of the operating system.

The implementation of the rapid prototyping procedure is studied using the example of the robotic system “Promobot” for setting the mode of manipulating the self-propelled cart. In this paper, we describe in detail the implementation of the robot control method using the Java Script and C programming languages.

The method of quantitative evaluation of the face recognition system, analyzed in the work on the example of the service robot “Promobot”, is described. The necessary information on the technology of face recognition is presented, and evaluation criteria are introduced and described. A methodology for evaluating the system for recognizing the faces of the robot “Promobot” was proposed and tested.

Students are given the principles of working with modern sensor networks Modbus RTU and TCP on the example of the robot system device “Promobot”. The internal organization of registers of network devices, the formats of requests and responses transmitted by devices, as well as typical errors in data transmission are considered. The issues of programming the network master using the widely used programming language Python are discussed in detail.

The list of development competencies is expanding. Further, students will consider how to work with speech recognition systems, the robot’s interactive system, how to connect additional devices and integrate the robot with external systems, and much more.
